After leaving Woebley Cross Cottage on a sunny morning we headed to Duncton, just a stone’s throw from Goodwood. Bignor Roman ruins and Arundal Castle provided some relief for Hazel, but Friday saw us heading to Goodwood.
As usual Goodwood Revival can be overwhelming, but after 2 previous visits we had a cunning plan. Using our roving grandstand tickets we made our
way around the track by foot and tractor. Stopping at grandstands when the practice got a bit serious or the flying displays had us craning our necks. Because of all the walking we had only got partially dressed up, tomorrow will be the full monty. One feature this year is the Lavant Cup which features 18 Jaguar D types and 2 Jaguar XKSS, which were based on the D type. The Earls Court Motor Show provided cars from the past as well as current models, presented as concept vehicles. Star of the show was one of the new Lightweight E types being made by Jaguar. The hundreds of stands provided lots of temptation, some factory Aston Martin merchandise will be heading back to Tassie. You could spend hours in the car parks alone, there must have been over 2000 Jags in one ! The Bugatti and Bentley sum up Goodwood, both had been driven hard, oil stains everywhere and just left whilst their owners enjoyed this unique event. More tomorrow….

We are in the Malvern Hills staying with our B&B friends Anne and Peter. The weather has been superb with one day reaching 26! Anyone with petrol in their blood knows this is the home of Morgan’s so …….
We made our way to the factory and hung around in the shop and showroom, eventually they took pity on me and I was taken for a 20 minute ride in a new, BROOKLANDS edition 3 wheeler. WOW this is motoring, loud bike exhaust and wind in your hair, but a smoother ride than our Plus four 4. No doors so a bit of a climb to get in, and quite tight for 2, but a real fun machine. We shall wait for Australian design compliance !
The scenery around here is fantastic, Ledbury is a beautiful black and white village, not too touristy. We finished the day with a visit to an English Heritage property and dinner out with our friends. THE perfect day as far as I am concerned. We are now on our way to Goodwood Revival, more to follow….

Well our time in Scotland is almost at an end, but what a finale…
We started off at Dreadnought Garage, home of the last racing MG made, the mighty ZT520. I also got to drive a supercharged ZT380, thanks Brian ! Only a few odds and ends made it into my suitcase……
On a very wet day in Dundee we had a day of discovery, the RRS Discovery ! Famous for all it’s polar expeditions it’s housed Scott and Shackleton, amongst others. A tremendous exhibit with great audio visual presentations.
Finally at Ayr, Hazel was able to realise a lifelong ambition and see an Avro Vulcan bomber fly. This was the aircraft that her father Reg earned his BEM for. The BEM was awarded to non commissioned officers and the MBE to commissioned officers. Apparently Reg designed a 10p modification that saved the RAF thousands of pounds per airframe. Suffice to say it was noisy and very impressive, and the support staff are keen to have any of Reg’s material that Hazel has stored away. What a shape ! It costs £40,000.00 a week to fly, which it does on public donations ! With very limited engine supplies it’s airtime is almost up, and it will become a static display. All the more reason to enjoy it !

We have a week in Scotland, staying in Smiddy Cottage, near Pitlochry. I think Hazel is enjoying having a big bathroom and room to move ! We are just doing day trips but loving the scenery and wildlife, especially the red squirrels. The Crannogs reconstruction, a 500 BC dwelling built over water was interesting, and the autumnal colours are just starting to show in the bracken and heather.

A few more pictures from our trip on the Llangollen Canal

Well as promised here is the first instalment of our trip so far, now we have Wi Fi..
Pyrford Marina is in an idyllic setting, set amongst the chaos of the M25 and the mad commute to and from work. Not only do the guys care for T42, and lots of other Sea Otters there but it’s also a short walk away from the Anchor pub, which is right by a lock and narrow hump backed bridge. So whilst drinking your pint of Westons cider you can gongoozle ( an official term for the watching of narrowboats, the more gongoozlers there are the more likely somebody is going crash ! ), but also watch cars and vans trying to squeeze across the bridge.
Ray decided to set up T42 on the trailer for an early depart, which made it exciting for Hazel climbing in and out on a ladder, especially after said Anchor pub and Westons…. No we didn’t tow it with the Fiat 500, but as usual these cars are perfect for the UK. Cheap to run and easy to drive down some of the narrow country lanes.
Some of the towns Ray trailered T42 through had very narrow streets, as he said he just looks at the vehicle blocking him and says I can’t reverse and waits ! Some half an hour after we arrived at Wixall Marina in North Wales T42 duly arrived and was launched, with some difficulty in the windy conditions. Because she has a flooding keel which holds 2.5 tons of water launching usually involves waiting whilst this fills, but as Wixall has no floating pontoon by the slipway she was pushed off, caught the wind and all my attempts at steering failed ..
Some pole work by Ray and ropes by Hazel soon saw us moored up safely. We decided to moor up for the rest of the day and continue sorting things out whilst I tried to regain by confidence…..On a 26 foot boat everything must be stowed away or chaos ensures quickly ! Next morning we set off down the Pees branch till it joined the Llangollen canal, and then headed towards Llangollen itself. My confidence returned as T42 handled really well, everything worked, and it’s easy to manoeuvre around other boats and sharp bends.
To be continued……

Sorry about the lack of blog, but there’s no wi fi on the Llangollen canal, we tried 2 dongles and 3 different SIM cards !
Suffice to say we crossed THE aquaduct twice and despite some cold wet days enjoyed our 10 days on the canal. T42 performed well, and is now resting in Wixall marina whilst we enjoy Sotland, and wi fi, for a week. More pics to follow tomorrow, after 5 hours of motorway driving I need to crash. Cheers M & H

With the rain coming down we decided to forgo T42’s first run under my helm and instead get some more shopping. Off to BROOKLANDS shopping center, which has parts of the old racing circuit embankment around it. However most of the action centered on a 2 lane roundabout system within the car park ! We failed to get a top 10 placing…..Wandering around we managed to find 50% of what we needed, including a local SIM card for a spare iphone.
Plan A was to install the card, 2 hours later we have given up and will buy a local phone outright !
Plan B was to crack open the bottle of champagne supplied by the ever helpful Peter, T42 was duly re christened and we shall try a run tomorrow. CHEERS Mark and Hazel

After 33 hours travelling we have made it to Pyrford Marina and T42. A quick dash to Waitrose at Byfleet for cleaning materials and Melton Mowbray pork pies. At 26′ long it didn’t take us long to scrub the interior and fill up all the nooks and crannies with our gear. We both collapsed into bunks and finally got some sleep.
Today is a steep learning curve with the previous owner getting to know all the ins and outs. With brain fade now starting again we are off to Wisley Gardens for lunch and some coffee mugs ! If I get brave and the weather holds up we’ll venture out onto the canal this afternoon sometime, stay posted for more pics…
